Produce evidence that the control works
Design recovery around transaction semantics. Capture correlation identifiers and commit positions so retries are safe. The engineering test should prove that a request can time out after a successful write without creating a second financial or fulfilment action when retried.
Your immediate priorities
- Test timeouts, queue replay and idempotency using representative order or payment flows.
- Verify backup restoration, data currency and reconciliation before enabling unrestricted traffic.
How to work through the decision
Work in the approved environment and keep secrets out of tickets, logs and chat. Record the artifact or configuration being tested, the expected behavior and the observed result. Test rejection of unauthorized access alongside successful business behavior. Preserve enough evidence for another person to review the conclusion, while minimizing sensitive data. A passing smoke test is one observation, not proof that every exposure path has been eliminated.
Evidence to ask for
A repeatable failure test with transaction counts, duplicate checks and observed recovery duration.
Does our retry logic preserve the business meaning of an operation after an ambiguous timeout?
Work with the next person
Return a reproducible verification record to the technical manager, including untested paths and assumptions. Identify the operational owner of any follow-up test that cannot run during the immediate change window.

A scenario to rehearse
Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: Checkout remains reachable but payment status and order reconciliation are delayed. The team must decide whether to accept new commitments and how to prevent a customer retry from producing a duplicate order.
What a useful outcome looks like
A repeatable failure test with transaction counts, duplicate checks and observed recovery duration. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
