Keep work moving with controlled exceptions
Manage the queue of business commitments, not merely the service dashboard. Identify which transactions are confirmed, uncertain or pending. Coordinate finance, fulfilment and support so a resumed API does not trigger conflicting decisions about the same payment or order.
Your immediate priorities
- Assign an owner to each backlog and agree which work must be reconciled manually.
- Publish separate milestones for service restoration and completion of delayed work.
How to work through the decision
Run a short operating review with the people who own the affected workflows. Separate work that can continue, work that needs a temporary process and work that should wait. For each exception, record the customer commitment, decision owner and evidence needed to return to normal. Count delayed or reconciled transactions rather than treating a supplier status page as a complete business measure.
Evidence to ask for
A reconciled transaction ledger with unresolved exceptions and the next customer update.
Can the team distinguish an unprocessed request from a completed request whose confirmation was delayed?
Work with the next person
Give the technical manager a prioritized workflow list and acceptance criteria. Ask for evidence in terms of the operation that must work, then arrange for the relevant staff to exercise it.

A scenario to rehearse
Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: Checkout remains reachable but payment status and order reconciliation are delayed. The team must decide whether to accept new commitments and how to prevent a customer retry from producing a duplicate order.
What a useful outcome looks like
A reconciled transaction ledger with unresolved exceptions and the next customer update. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
