Priority is conditional on actual exposure. An asterisk highlights especially conditional exposure; these are editorial judgments, not CVSS scores.

What the report establishes

Google Threat Intelligence and Mandiant describe April-July 2026 tampering with AOMEI Backupper and AnyViewer update infrastructure. Malicious configuration changes were exposed for short windows, often five to ten minutes, then reverted. Payloads included CROSSROAD and SHINYROAD. AOMEI told Mandiant on 29 July that it had taken corrective action.

Impact and potential reach

Endpoints that contacted affected update infrastructure during malicious windows. A clean download today cannot exclude an earlier infection. The report does not establish a total number of affected customers; this is newly included research about an earlier campaign.

Required actions

Endpoint and backup owners: use Google's published indicators for retrospective April-July endpoint and network review. Preserve cached updater configuration and event-time logs; investigate unexpected updater child processes and scheduled tasks. Vendor-side repair does not remove endpoint persistence. Isolate confirmed infections and rebuild affected systems.
