Keep work moving with controlled exceptions

Coordinate delivery around the affected build and release paths. Not every product requires the same action, and a development incident does not automatically establish customer compromise. Ask engineering to provide a scoped release-readiness decision that operations can use.

Your immediate priorities

  • Map delayed releases and customer commitments to the affected build pipelines.
  • Maintain approved alternatives for urgent fixes while normal publishing is restricted.

How to work through the decision

Run a short operating review with the people who own the affected workflows. Separate work that can continue, work that needs a temporary process and work that should wait. For each exception, record the customer commitment, decision owner and evidence needed to return to normal. Count delayed or reconciled transactions rather than treating a supplier status page as a complete business measure.

Evidence to ask for

A release-impact register with product-specific acceptance owners.

Which customer commitment depends on a pipeline whose integrity is still unresolved?

Work with the next person

Give the technical manager a prioritized workflow list and acceptance criteria. Ask for evidence in terms of the operation that must work, then arrange for the relevant staff to exercise it.

A scenario to rehearse

Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: A package is absent from the application’s direct dependency list but appears in the CI lockfile through a build tool. The exercise follows the install path and publishing credentials rather than closing the case after a source-code search.

What a useful outcome looks like
