Trace the exposure path

Establish the installed edition, artifact timing and activation evidence. Review site files, database changes, administrator accounts and the authority available to the web application.

Build a small evidence map from the initiating dependency to the identities, business data and operations it can reach. Include indirect consumers and scheduled work. An inventory entry describes a possible path; activity logs and other account evidence are needed to establish what happened on that path.

Collect the right evidence

  • Determine edition, artifact window and activation status across all sites.
  • Review administrator changes, executable files and relevant persistence paths under the response plan.
  • Record asset identifiers, artifact or configuration versions, permission scope, evidence dates and the owner of each unresolved question. Do not include secret values.

Control and repair

Follow the vendor’s affected-site guidance and restrict suspect access. Preserve evidence and protect current business records before destructive restoration, using a clean response environment.

Restore or rebuild from trusted files and database evidence, apply verified software and replace relevant credentials. Reconcile legitimate post-backup transactions without reintroducing untrusted changes.

Prove the boundary

Validate site integrity, account permissions, checkout or publishing behavior and recovery of genuine customer activity. Confirm that the affected plugin and unauthorized persistence are no longer present.

Use positive tests for the business function and negative tests for the access that should now be denied. Record which environment was tested and whether it represents production. Do not treat a successful login, clean homepage or healthy infrastructure graph as a substitute for an authorization or integrity test.

Engineering handoff

An integrity review and reproducible acceptance tests for the restored application.

A site recovery plan with trustworthy restore points and explicit acceptance gates.

Acceptance gate

Reopen normal publishing or trading only after both technical integrity and business-record reconciliation have been accepted by their owners.
