Keep work moving with controlled exceptions
Protect legitimate business activity during a security restore. Ask operations to identify orders, content and customer changes created after the trusted recovery point. A technically successful rollback can still create financial and service errors if that work disappears.
Your immediate priorities
- Build a register of transactions requiring reconciliation after restoration.
- Coordinate maintenance, fulfilment and support while site integrity is checked.
How to work through the decision
Run a short operating review with the people who own the affected workflows. Separate work that can continue, work that needs a temporary process and work that should wait. For each exception, record the customer commitment, decision owner and evidence needed to return to normal. Count delayed or reconciled transactions rather than treating a supplier status page as a complete business measure.
Evidence to ask for
A signed reconciliation list and a controlled return-to-trading checklist.
Which genuine customer actions will an older backup erase?
Work with the next person
Give the technical manager a prioritized workflow list and acceptance criteria. Ask for evidence in terms of the operation that must work, then arrange for the relevant staff to exercise it.

A scenario to rehearse
Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: A retailer restores last week’s clean backup and removes the malicious files, but loses two days of valid orders. The exercise requires a safe reconciliation process and customer-service plan before the restore is approved.
What a useful outcome looks like
A signed reconciliation list and a controlled return-to-trading checklist. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
