Give accurate answers and preserve customer commitments
Distinguish a supplier tooling incident from a confirmed customer account breach. Collect customer reports through established channels and avoid speculation about the contents of an administrator’s device. Publish functional impact and investigation updates only as approved.
Your immediate priorities
- Track any support delays caused by restricted administrative access.
- Escalate credible account changes or unexpected messages to the incident lead.
How to work through the decision
Use one approved, dated account of what is known, what is still being checked and when the next update is expected. Avoid diagnosing compromise from a customer’s description alone. Record the minimum information needed to route a case; passwords, payment card details and recovery codes do not belong in ordinary support chat. Track unresolved orders and promised follow-ups separately from general incident questions.
Evidence to ask for
A dated communication brief with confirmed service effects and unanswered questions.
Does our statement describe evidence about this service or a general software advisory?
Work with the next person
Send the business manager a concise list of customer effects, unresolved commitments and recurring questions. Escalate new security evidence through the incident channel, preserving the original report without circulating sensitive material.

A scenario to rehearse
Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: A developer downloaded the CLI for a one-time task on a laptop that also held production cloud credentials. The exercise traces the laptop’s authority instead of limiting investigation to the vendor named on the binary.
What a useful outcome looks like
A dated communication brief with confirmed service effects and unanswered questions. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
