Keep work moving with controlled exceptions
Expect operational restrictions when administrators lose access to their normal workstations. Coordinate essential changes through a verified alternative process and defer nonessential production work. Track which customer commitments depend on the affected administration path.
Your immediate priorities
- Identify urgent operational tasks and the approved staff able to perform them safely.
- Record deferred changes and their business consequences.
How to work through the decision
Run a short operating review with the people who own the affected workflows. Separate work that can continue, work that needs a temporary process and work that should wait. For each exception, record the customer commitment, decision owner and evidence needed to return to normal. Count delayed or reconciled transactions rather than treating a supplier status page as a complete business measure.
Evidence to ask for
A continuity queue for administrative work with clear authorization and escalation.
Which business operation depends on the workstation we have just isolated?
Work with the next person
Give the technical manager a prioritized workflow list and acceptance criteria. Ask for evidence in terms of the operation that must work, then arrange for the relevant staff to exercise it.

A scenario to rehearse
Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: A developer downloaded the CLI for a one-time task on a laptop that also held production cloud credentials. The exercise traces the laptop’s authority instead of limiting investigation to the vendor named on the binary.
What a useful outcome looks like
A continuity queue for administrative work with clear authorization and escalation. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
