Give accurate answers and preserve customer commitments

Help customers use safe support paths when they encounter connection warnings. Do not ask them to click through certificate errors or install an unverified certificate to regain access. Distinguish a customer-device update request from an integration problem the business must resolve.

Your immediate priorities

  • Provide only the approved vendor or business update instructions.
  • Escalate repeated warning reports with time, device type and affected service, avoiding secrets.

How to work through the decision

Use one approved, dated account of what is known, what is still being checked and when the next update is expected. Avoid diagnosing compromise from a customer’s description alone. Record the minimum information needed to route a case; passwords, payment card details and recovery codes do not belong in ordinary support chat. Track unresolved orders and promised follow-ups separately from general incident questions.

Evidence to ask for

A warning-response script and an engineering escalation with enough context to reproduce the issue safely.

Are we asking the customer to fix something that actually belongs to our application?

Work with the next person

Send the business manager a concise list of customer effects, unresolved commitments and recurring questions. Escalate new security evidence through the incident channel, preserving the original report without circulating sensitive material.

A scenario to rehearse

Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: Staff browsers are updated but an order-sync container keeps its older CA bundle. The exercise locates that separate verifier and tests the integration after rebuilding and redeploying the container.

What a useful outcome looks like

A warning-response script and an engineering escalation with enough context to reproduce the issue safely. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
