Give accurate answers and preserve customer commitments
Explain functional availability separately from security investigation. A checkout returning online does not answer every question about connected accounts. Use the approved account-specific statement and keep customer evidence attached to the incident case.
Your immediate priorities
- Maintain clear status for ordering, fulfilment and account support.
- Escalate unexpected messages or transactions through the designated security contact.
How to work through the decision
Use one approved, dated account of what is known, what is still being checked and when the next update is expected. Avoid diagnosing compromise from a customer’s description alone. Record the minimum information needed to route a case; passwords, payment card details and recovery codes do not belong in ordinary support chat. Track unresolved orders and promised follow-ups separately from general incident questions.
Evidence to ask for
A dated service-status brief and a queue of account-specific concerns.
Are we promising an investigation outcome merely because the website loads again?
Work with the next person
Send the business manager a concise list of customer effects, unresolved commitments and recurring questions. Escalate new security evidence through the incident channel, preserving the original report without circulating sensitive material.

A scenario to rehearse
Illustrative exercise, not an observed customer incident: A shop restores its application after a hosting interruption, then discovers that an environment variable also authorized a marketing export. The exercise follows that separate data path before declaring the response complete.
What a useful outcome looks like
A dated service-status brief and a queue of account-specific concerns. Keep the decision dated and return to it if new evidence changes the scope.
