Trace the exposure path
Find the business function, maintainer, runtime and dependencies behind each legacy service. Determine whether a vendor provides a verifiable backport and what remains outside that support commitment.
Build a small evidence map from the initiating dependency to the identities, business data and operations it can reach. Include indirect consumers and scheduled work. An inventory entry describes a possible path; activity logs and other account evidence are needed to establish what happened on that path.
Collect the right evidence
- Request written backport scope and deployed verification from the maintainer.
- Test custom extensions, scheduled jobs and external callbacks against the target runtime or replacement.
- Record asset identifiers, artifact or configuration versions, permission scope, evidence dates and the owner of each unresolved question. Do not include secret values.
Control and repair
Reduce exposure in line with current vendor guidance while establishing a supported remediation path. Treat a claimed backport as evidence to verify, not a reason to stop investigating the estate.
Choose between a maintained application upgrade, a supported hosting arrangement or a scoped replacement. Reconcile data, custom behavior, integrations and customer account transitions before cutover.
Prove the boundary
Obtain deployed-fix evidence and a documented support horizon. Exercise the essential buying or operating workflow and retain a usable export and recovery path.
Use positive tests for the business function and negative tests for the access that should now be denied. Record which environment was tested and whether it represents production. Do not treat a successful login, clean homepage or healthy infrastructure graph as a substitute for an authorization or integrity test.
Engineering handoff
A tested migration or upgrade path with measurable acceptance and recovery criteria.
A legacy exception register with proof, residual gaps and retirement milestones.
Acceptance gate
Accept a temporary fix only with an accountable owner, expiry or review point, and a funded route to sustainable support.
