What the source establishes

PHP’s guidance describes limited source backports for 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1 while still identifying those branches as unsupported. A one-off fix is not restoration of general support. This is part of the same PHP exposure discussed in topic 01, not evidence of a separate internet-wide failure.

Where the evidence stops

Version-disclosing website samples cannot establish the number of affected people or predict a permanent failure of a fixed share of the internet.

Use this report as a dated interpretation. A vendor notice establishes what that vendor reports; a research observation establishes what the researcher observed. Neither automatically answers the account-specific question for your business. Record later changes to the source before relying on its versions, deadlines or recovery sequence.

Establish your own scope

Find the business function, maintainer, runtime and dependencies behind each legacy service. Determine whether a vendor provides a verifiable backport and what remains outside that support commitment.

  • Identify the exact service, artifact, account or device relevant to your business, with a responsible owner.
  • Record whether the source applies to that asset and what evidence supports the match.
  • Separate evidence of exposure, evidence of activity and evidence of business impact. Leave unanswered questions explicitly open.

What would change the assessment?

Obtain deployed-fix evidence and a documented support horizon. Exercise the essential buying or operating workflow and retain a usable export and recovery path.

Revisit the decision when the provider changes scope, a new account-specific notice arrives or local evidence contradicts the current assumption. Preserve the earlier conclusion and the reason it changed. Do not silently turn a precaution into a confirmed breach, or an absence of telemetry into proof of safety.

Decision checkpoint

Accept a temporary fix only with an accountable owner, expiry or review point, and a funded route to sustainable support.
