Trace the exposure path
Map public hostnames to the actual executing runtime, including containers, appliances, hosting control panels and background workers. Record the owner and patch authority for each deployment.
Build a small evidence map from the initiating dependency to the identities, business data and operations it can reach. Include indirect consumers and scheduled work. An inventory entry describes a possible path; activity logs and other account evidence are needed to establish what happened on that path.
Collect the right evidence
- Reconcile domains, services, images and hosting-provider confirmations.
- Rebuild affected images and exercise payment callbacks, file handling and scheduled tasks in an isolated test environment.
- Record asset identifiers, artifact or configuration versions, permission scope, evidence dates and the owner of each unresolved question. Do not include secret values.
Control and repair
Have the incident lead decide which exposed endpoints can remain available. Preserve relevant access, deployment and application logs; apply vendor-directed containment while a verified runtime update is prepared.
Rebuild and deploy a supported patched runtime or obtain written evidence of the vendor backport. Test checkout, uploads, scheduled jobs and integrations against the new image before restoring normal traffic.
Prove the boundary
Record running worker versions and image digests, not just package manifests. Test the external traffic path and a representative transaction, and record who reviewed suspicious activity.
Use positive tests for the business function and negative tests for the access that should now be denied. Record which environment was tested and whether it represents production. Do not treat a successful login, clean homepage or healthy infrastructure graph as a substitute for an authorization or integrity test.
Engineering handoff
A release record containing runtime evidence, test outcomes and an explicit rollback decision.
An exposure register linking every affected service to a verified change or an explicitly restricted exception.
Acceptance gate
Reopen only when the runtime remediation is verified, critical trading tests pass, and the incident owner has decided whether further investigation is required.
