Trace the exposure path
Map every site connected to management services, including forgotten registrations. Review the permissions of those relationships, recent account changes, plugin activity and the trustworthiness of available backups.
Build a small evidence map from the initiating dependency to the identities, business data and operations it can reach. Include indirect consumers and scheduled work. An inventory entry describes a possible path; activity logs and other account evidence are needed to establish what happened on that path.
Collect the right evidence
- Enumerate connected sites and review account, role and plugin changes.
- Review unexpected accounts, roles, plugins and relevant access logs.
- Record asset identifiers, artifact or configuration versions, permission scope, evidence dates and the owner of each unresolved question. Do not include secret values.
Control and repair
Apply current vendor guidance to suspect management connections and preserve available access evidence. Review unauthorized accounts and changes through the incident process rather than assuming backup availability proves safety.
Re-establish management with reviewed privileges and trusted credentials. Remove unauthorized state through a documented recovery process and verify backups from appropriate points in time.
Prove the boundary
Test restoration in an isolated environment, review site permissions and confirm that retired management access is invalidated. Record which backups have actually passed integrity and usability checks.
Use positive tests for the business function and negative tests for the access that should now be denied. Record which environment was tested and whether it represents production. Do not treat a successful login, clean homepage or healthy infrastructure graph as a substitute for an authorization or integrity test.
Engineering handoff
An integrity-reviewed recovery artifact and explicit privilege tests.
A site-to-management map and a tested recovery record with residual questions.
Acceptance gate
Accept recovery when the production site and the management and backup paths have independently verified access and integrity.
