AI-generated code: Evidence and scope

What the source establishes
OWASP’s guidance identifies risks from agentic coding tools crossing repository, tool and credential boundaries, and calls for independent review of security-critical behavior. It supports an assurance workflow. It does not verify the particular social-media anecdote in the original report or establish a universal AI-code failure rate.

Where the evidence stops
The origin of code does not prove it secure or insecure. Passing tests that repeat the implementation’s assumptions is not independent evidence of correct authorisation.
Use this report as a dated interpretation. A vendor notice establishes what that vendor reports; a research observation establishes what the researcher observed. Neither automatically answers the account-specific question for your business. Record later changes to the source before relying on its versions, deadlines or recovery sequence.
Establish your own scope
Identify security-sensitive changes and the trust boundaries they affect. Review object ownership, tenant separation, role checks, data export and the privileges available to the coding environment.
- Identify the exact service, artifact, account or device relevant to your business, with a responsible owner.
- Record whether the source applies to that asset and what evidence supports the match.
- Separate evidence of exposure, evidence of activity and evidence of business impact. Leave unanswered questions explicitly open.
What would change the assessment?
Demonstrate that a user cannot read or modify another tenant’s objects through direct requests, alternate endpoints or background paths. Retain the reviewer’s reasoning and the relevant tests.
Revisit the decision when the provider changes scope, a new account-specific notice arrives or local evidence contradicts the current assumption. Preserve the earlier conclusion and the reason it changed. Do not silently turn a precaution into a confirmed breach, or an absence of telemetry into proof of safety.
Decision checkpoint
Release the feature only after an accountable reviewer accepts the security boundary and the negative tests exercise behavior beyond the happy path.
