Trace the exposure path

Record installation history, wheel origin, image digest, registry and execution evidence. Trace the permissions available to the environment, including provider keys, database access and cloud identity.

Build a small evidence map from the initiating dependency to the identities, business data and operations it can reach. Include indirect consumers and scheduled work. An inventory entry describes a possible path; activity logs and other account evidence are needed to establish what happened on that path.

Collect the right evidence

  • Collect installation and image-digest evidence across laptops, CI and deployed gateways.
  • Preserve package metadata and image identifiers through the approved response process.
  • Record asset identifiers, artifact or configuration versions, permission scope, evidence dates and the owner of each unresolved question. Do not include secret values.

Control and repair

Follow the vendor’s recovery sequence from a trusted response environment. Do not begin with commands that start the affected Python environment; preserve evidence and coordinate containment with the incident lead.

Rebuild from verified inputs and reviewed artifacts. Replace accessible credentials from clean systems after controlling paths that could capture replacements, and investigate their downstream use.

Prove the boundary

Retain artifact and execution evidence, verify replacement images and review the relevant provider and cloud account activity. Prove that old credentials are invalidated.

Use positive tests for the business function and negative tests for the access that should now be denied. Record which environment was tested and whether it represents production. Do not treat a successful login, clean homepage or healthy infrastructure graph as a substitute for an authorization or integrity test.

Engineering handoff

A reproducible clean build and credential transition record, with account review references.

An artifact-to-environment-to-credential map with signed recovery steps.

Acceptance gate

Resume gateway traffic only when the clean execution environment, downstream credentials and usage controls have been reviewed together.
